Our Heavenly Espresso Bar
When I stumbled across
en route to a new job in a new office, I got that 'unexpected bonus' kind of feeling. You know, that feeling you get when you discover a forgotten $20 in your wallet, or a colleague brings in a chocolate cake to share, or you catch a glimpse of butterflies on a lunchtime walk.
Wedged in an industrial area just across from the Coorparoo railway line, hunkers alongside smash repair shops, demolition yards, cabinet makers, spray painters and disused manufacturing plants. So with Tibetan flags flying, Bob Marley playing and inspirational quotes peppering the walls, it's an unlikely oasis of calm and refreshment.
Though it's tucked away, hole-in-the-wall style, fronts CrossFit Brisbane
, one of those hardcore gyms that you know would be good for you if only you had the ticker for it. There's an ultra-relaxed vibe as post-session gym-goers congregate at the large wooden table inside, or spill out onto the small tables and chairs just off the footpath. Office workers also stop here for a caffeine hit to get them through the day.
And then there's the coffee. These baristas not only know coffee - they know customer service. By my second visit, they not only knew the type of coffee I liked, but the size and the fact that I have two sugars. (I know, I know, I should probably cut back, but who's really counting?)
There's not a lot of food on offer but what there is, is handpicked and chosen to appeal to the gym-going set. Heavenly Espresso sells Anna's Gourmet Paleo
range of raw foods and the bounce energy balls by Bounce Foods
. I'm particularly partial to the Peanut Protein Blast balls which are billed as offering slow-releasing energy and perfect pre- or post-workout. Earth Vibrations organic healing teas are also for sale by the packet.
There's plenty of street parking around which makes it easy to stop off for a quick cup of Jo - no matter whether you're wearing a tracksuit or a three-piece suit.
