Much hyped locations tend to scare me a little. Far too often they fall short of expectation and you leave feeling disappointed (and, more often than not, ripped off). Thank the fine dining gods that Oskars is not a restaurant that falls into this category. My family has been holidaying at Burleigh Heads for a number of years now and this year we finally decided we were sick of the surf club and wanted to go for something a little more upmarket.

From the moment you walk through the doors of this beautiful seaside restaurant you become aware that this might just be something special. If you can tear your eyes away from the spectacular view out towards Surfers Paradise, you'll notice the modern, refined decor. The staff are all impeccably presented and trained and seem genuinely happy to help.

For entree, my mother and I decided to simply share a house panini with dukkah and olive oil. My partner decided to go for the crisp pork belly served with black pudding, and sunflower seed praline. It was beautifully presented and very tasty.

I'm never quite sure what to expect when it comes to portion sizes in fine dining restaurants. Oskars' main meals are more than generous. We tried the local snapper with panzanella salad, angus eye fillet with caramelised brussel sprouts, and confit duck with crispy roast potatoes. No one at our table was disappointed. The food was immaculately presented and the flavours all well thought out. All the produce was exceptionally fresh and prepared with the greatest respect.

We were also tempted by the array of delicious sounding deserts on offer but our mains had defeated us and we simply couldn't fit any more in!

In a word Oskars is one of the finest restaurants that we have been to and is absolutely worth the higher price tag. They have achieved the perfect combination of location, service and cuisine. One thing I would note is that, even on a week night, booking is definitely a good idea. Obviously many locals and holiday makers alike are well aware of what a delight this restaurant is and its popularity is immense.

So next time you are at the Gold Coast, treat yourself to a beautiful lunch or dinner and out at the iconic Oskars. I sincerely doubt you will be disappointed!
