The lounge bar at Oscars has since closed
If you work or study in the city and are looking for a cheap place to grab a hearty meal, you could do a lot worse than Oscars Lounge Bar and Restaurant. Situated in the heart of Pyrmont, just over the Pyrmont footbridge, and only a minute from Star City Casino and Darling Harbour, this funky bar and restaurant serves up daily specials guaranteed not to break the bank.
We headed to Oscars for a leisurely Sunday lunch, and couldn't go past the pork ribs ($29) served with steak cut chips, salad and plenty of delicious sticky bbq sauce. We also grabbed the daily combo special; a steak cooked to order with your choice of sauce served with chips and salad, and a free schmiddy of ale (only $12).
The ribs were a large serve, and cooked deliciously; the meat just fell off the bone. The steak was cooked medium rare just as we requested, and slathered in delicious béarnaise sauce; it was a better-than-average $10 steak. The chips were crisp and thick-cut. We were also lucky enough to be treated to live music, which was an added bonus.
Oscars specials make it a great place to dine; Weekly specials include $15 ribs Monday, 2-for-1 Tuesdays, $10 rump steak Wednesdays, and $16 Schnitzel and Squire Thursdays. To make the deal even sweeter you can get $3 drinks Mondays – Wednesday on selected house wine and beer. They also have a good selection of mains, burger and light meals on their regular menu for around the $15 mark.
