I didn't mean to go to Oscar Cooper, much less sit there for two hours working my way through a 3pm breakfast and pot of tea, but when a sudden storm drove me into the nearest cafe I felt I had hit upon a winner.

The minimalist wooden interior is offset by brightly-coloured flowers which sit in vases and tables and in boxes along one wall. Staff wear casual black and were genuinely friendly without being over-the-top.



Arriving somewhat flustered by the sudden change in weather I made the faux-pas of putting my wet umbrella on the clean table, and was politely directed to a space by the door reserved for such things. My apology was matched by theirs when a computer error removed my drink order - scores even.

Oscar Cooper's menu is short but creative, with breakfast until 3:30pm (brilliant!) and booze all day. I ordered sourdough toast with poached eggs and avocado - not a menu item, but they were happy to accommodate me. It arrived quickly and was simple but delicious. As well as all-day cocktails I think this is the secret to Oscar Cooper's success; their ingredients taste fantastic. Even something as simple as eggs on toast was well-presented and tasted fresh and high-quality.



Oscar Cooper caters to a typical Prahran crowd - young, modern, fashionable - without losing an air of normalcy that welcomes families and students along for the ride.
