Ormiston is a pretty little suburb nestled between Wellington Point and Cleveland, on the shores of Moreton Bay.
The Ormiston State Primary School at 82-110 Gordon Street, Ormiston, has been educating both boys and girls for more than 140 years.
The Primary School has a philosophy that is focused on the "whole child". What does that mean? It means that as well as focusing on academic, cultural and sporting achievements, community participation is strongly encouraged.
With this in mind, on Saturday 12th September, the school will be holding its Spring Fair, from 10am through to 3pm.
The Fair is expected to be great fun for all the family, with face painting, a bouncy castle, and exciting rides for the little people.
For Mums and Dads, there will be raffles and market stalls, as well as entertainment. And my favourite - a baked goods stall. Why is it that school mums make the best chocolate cakes and toffees?
This has all the hallmarks of a great family day out.
Most importantly, having family attending the Ormiston Primary School is not a prerequisite to participation. Although my own daughters have long since passed these innocent years, I still believe in supporting the local school environment. School is one of the most important places where our youngest learn the importance of community.
