Pre-celebrate Christmas with your kids, friends & colleagues
Christmas holidays always seem to arrive and to pass too quickly but the beauty about this season of the year is that you get to celebrate it plenty of times with different people!
Count down has begun: time to celebrate with everyone!
Adelaide's streets and shops are beautifully decorated, Christmas markets are popping a bit everywhere and you can definitely feel this Christmassy spirit in the air. It is this moment of the year when we reconnect with our family and spend more quality time with our significant others planning our special day festivities. But before we all get caught in family reunions, it is also the opportunity to pre-celebrate Christmas with people that matter to us because like local Adelaide artist Dino Jag sings "You don't have to wait for Christmas day" to celebrate and make it special!
So while you are listening to this highly recommended funky reggae christmassy melody, here are 3 fun, original and festive activities to do in Adelaide and its surroundings while waiting for Christmas day!
Let Ali take you on a journey of a thousand and one nights with his beautiful banquet menu. At Sahara Moroccan Casbah everything is fresh, made in house, cooked on the day from scratch by Ali so you can enjoy the best of Morocco's flavours. Imagine your own private party room decorated in the pure Moroccan style with beautiful dishes such as couscous, tagine, chicken bastilla among others served in beautiful Moroccan platters and tea services.
You have to try the traditional Moroccan mint tea and the delicious homemade cakes to go with!
It is like stepping in Morocco: vibrant, full of colours; it smells divine and tastes amazing. You will definitely feel like a king from an oriental tale sitting and conversing with your guests. The banquet designed as a feed me menu style is a unique experience that will take you on a culinary journey and is perfect for sharing, spending a good time making memories in a relaxed and original setting. And the beauty about it is that it is very reasonably priced as it includes the starters, the mains, the desserts and of course the popular Moroccan mint tea. Besides, there are no additional fees to hire the party room as long as you are a group of minimum 6 people, at 40 dollars/person you will feast like a king!
Traditional Moroccan dishes generally include lamb or chicken but Ali can adapt to your dietary requirements and revisit some famous recipes offering fish or a vegetarian alternative. If you are on a budget or looking for something even more casual but still festive, instead of a banquet, why don't you opt for a Moroccan tea party with beautiful platters of delicious homemade cakes and refreshments! Furthermore, it is so well located that it is super easy to park but you are still very close to many city attractions! Unbeatable, this is like Christmas came early this year!
It is like traveling to Morocco, enjoying all these beautiful flavours and colours in your plate but also in the restaurant decoration!
Don't you think that Christmas season is the perfect timing to celebrate friendship and a good excuse to get together! But instead of taking part to a winery tour or meeting at a trendy rooftop bar, sometimes it is nice to do something off the beaten track. So why don't you take your favourite people in the world on an adventure! Imagine yourself on the sea, on a catamaran with a beautiful sunset on the sea as your decor, having a drink and a platter with your friends - definitely a lavish way to start your Christmas holidays!
A cruise at sunset on a catamaran with some friends is definitely a fun, original, special, memorable and festive moment!
Too expensive or too crowded I hear you say? Well, not necessary if you pick a public twilight cruise on a catamaran, it is a small boat so it won't be busy but since it's public then you will be mixed with other lovely people and caring is sharing, so for only 29 dollars/head, you will feel (almost) like a millionaire! Temptation cruise, located on the marina in Glenelg organises regularly public cruises at sunset on a catamaran: it is fun, simple and well organised. There are drinks to be purchased onboard and you can order your cheese platter in advance when you book your ticket. The cruise lasts 90 minutes, it is good fun and if you are lucky dolphins might even join the party!
When it comes to Christmas, the little ones can get pretty impatient and demanding so it is always handy to have some fun and festive activities to keep them busy (and tired haha) while waiting for Christmas day. Strawberry picking is a great outdoor activity to entertain kids as they enjoy the experience of treasure hunting looking for the perfect big red ripen strawberry to put in their little basket, cute, isn't it! Besides, there is nothing like biting into a fresh, juicy, flavourful strawberry that you picked yourself!
Beerenberg Farm in Hahndorf is actually very popular among families for strawberry picking. It is a really nice place to visit and it is good fun, kids love it and adults too. All you need is to check their website prior to your visit to make sure the strawberry patch is open. Then just head to the shop where you will be given a wristband and a picking container (5 dollars/person but it is free for kids that are 12 and under), then head to the patch and have fun picking fresh strawberries and starting dreaming about all the wonderful recipes you are going to make afterwards, involve your little ones in the brainstorming - homemade strawberry ice cream is a given one obviously - but let's be honest there are millions of possibilities: yoghurt, tiramisu, smoothie, trifle, tart, crumble you name it - maybe even some inspirations for your Christmas dessert!
Once you are done, just go back to the farm shop and pay your strawberry due (10.95 dollars/kg). If you have a bit of time, and the children are not looking, don't hesitate to explore the farm shop as it is full of beautiful treats to put under your Christmas tree, especially the jars and bottles of sauce that have names of people written on their labels as well as a humoristic note at the back of the container: they are great and fun little gift ideas - come on we all know a Lee, a Russ, an uncle Steve, a Deb, a Nikki, an auntie Nettie and so on. Imagine their surprise on their face when they unwrap their Christmas present and see their names on a delicious product made here in the Adelaide hills!
Now I can't help wondering when I will see my name on one of those Beerenberg jar - a (French) girl can dream!
And remember you don't have to wait for Christmas day to celebrate, spend fun, original and festive time with your family but also with your friends, colleagues and acquaintances and you never know, you might brighten someone's day with a smile, a little gift, a note, an invitation or even a Christmas song tralalalalala!
