This restaurant is located just by the bus stop in Willoughby so it really is simple to get to. Catch a 273 or 257 bus and you're golden. Finding parking by car is a little bit harder as it is located on Willoughby Road, but there are quite a few side lanes where you could park a short distance away from the restaurant.
The staff are all very friendly and service is efficient. We didn't need to call for more water or for plates to be cleared as we were well looked after throughout the night. Also it is simply impossible to disagree with anyone who has the great wisdom and insight to put this motto on their wall.
A great motto to live by
Everything about the place was a unique culinary experience, even down to fresh pepper and salt on our table.
Now I think it's time to wow you with their food. I honestly have never thought of trying their particular blends of flavours but I must say that it was done with great skill and I am thoroughly impressed with the food quality and flavour.
Spanish jamon prosciutto, rocket, pear and hazelnuts
This delicious entrée was packed with flavour, absolutely packed. In all my life I wouldn't have thought ham and pear would go together but I was very wrong. This dish was a fantastic entrée as it had great taste but didn't fill you up and left you wanting for more. After finishing the plate I couldn't wait to see what was coming next.
Now as a note, the absolute best way to enjoy this dish really is to get a piece of everything onto your fork and enjoy all the flavours mixing together. Piece by piece is good, but combined it is great.
The best way to eat this dish
Scallop and prawn dumplings, shitakes, rosehip bacon and fried shallots
I must say that these are so delicious that I would go back again simply to have more. I kid you not, they smelt amazing and it made it very hard to take any photos before we got stuck into the meal. I do wish there were more though because I could have eaten them all night.
Smashed garlic and oregano lamb skewers with watermelon olives, feta
I will admit, for the longest time I wondered what watermelon olives are when I saw the menu, but in actual fact it is watermelon and olives. Once again, watermelon and lamb. Really? But yes, amazingly this added dash of fruit really helped make the dish. I will make a note here to say that the dish is spicy so if you have a delicate palate make sure you have water with you. I'm highly susceptible to spicy food so I try to avoid it when I can, but I still ate all of this dish as it really did taste that good.
NZ mussel vinaigrette with baby cos, wild mint and dijon
Now this course would probably be your biggest filler. Eating up all those mussels will fill you up and is a lot more satisfyingly than your entrées. This dish followed suit with all the others and tasted delicious.
The perfect way to end the meal. You could also ask for coffee or tea, but having a particular sweet tooth I do love a good cup of hot chocolate, and yes, it was a very good cup. I do always love getting marshmallows as part of the drink rather than an added extra.
Overall, my experience here was incredibly good and I will be going back soon. I highly recommend that others try it out and taste the amazing menu for themselves, which can be found on the Origin Dining website. As an added bonus Origin Dining now has a $10 Lunch special on Monday to Saturday and does catering and group functions as well.
