Best play cafe around
If you need a break from the constant noise of young children head to the Origin Coffee Bar in Pooraka. Hands down the best play cafe in Adelaide. This indoor play cafe has free entry and the kids absolutely love the fully enclosed play area. The play area is clear and well cared for and has plenty of space for the children to play.
The cafe has fantastic coffee, great snacks and tasty meals, all at affordable prices. The added bonus here is, as you haven't had to pay an entry fee for the children to play, you can actually afford to eat here without blowing the budget.
The cafe area is quite large and spread out but it retains a cosy cafe atmosphere that isn't usually apparent in large eating areas. As the play area is in an enclosed space, you can actually come to the cafe for business meetings or with friends who have no children for a quiet cuppa or nice lunch.
The cafe is open 9am-3pm Monday through Saturday with school holiday specials at the moment like a Hot Dog and can of soft Drink for just $5.
The cafe is held in a church, I mention this not as a caution at all but because I have arranged to meet people here and at first they have been unsure whether they are in the right place when they arrive and see the Victory Church sign. The fact that they cafe is at a church doesn't affect the great coffee, value for money food and drinks or the fantastic free indoor playground.
I recently visited with my daughter and loved it! Its a much more affordable outing than the other play cafes where you spend more money on the entry fees than anything else which can be annoying. Only thing i would say about this place that they could improve on is the staff need to be more firm when bullying is brought to their attention. There was this little girl who was hitting, slapping, pulling hair, throwing balls at other kids faces, pushing and using foul language (she was only about 4 or 5) and for about an hour I saw kid after kid walk out of the play area crying and pointing to this girl. Anyway, i noticed that there was a seat in the play area so i went to sit in there and keep an eye on things. My daughter went down the slide and had to stop halfway because a little baby had decided to climb up the slide, so my daughter stopped halfway to wait for the baby to be out of the way before going all the way down...well suddenly out of nowhere this bully pushed her hard from behind and my daughter went tumbling down the slide and obviously into this baby. I spoke to her several times to ask her to play nice and not to do the things she was doing but she just talked back. Couldn't figure out who the mother was so went and spoke to the staff behind the counter who came in and didn't really do anything, just said "please play nice kids" and that was it. That can happen anywhere i'm sure but just wished the staff were more firm and proactive in nipping the situation on the bud when made aware.
