What attracts many visitors to the Blue Mountains is not just the scenary. It's the thriving industry of cafes and restaurants in the area. Atop the totem pole is the , located in the commercial hub of Springwood, which is the recipient of multiple awards for best cafe or restaurant for 7 years running.

Nestled in the historic Oriental Hotel, many locals and tourists wine and dine in the thick walls of the brick structure. Historic Memorabilia and pictures are displayed all around the walls, providing historic backstories into the local area and the establishment of the hotel. It just gives some extra insight into the context of the cafe and hotel.

In terms of the food, the Salt & Pepper prawns are a real treat. Coupled with the perfect balance of flavour with herbs and the prawns, the presentation is intricately designed to entice customers to stuff their mouths.

The Steak Sandwich is a popular meal with customers. Cheese, Tomato, Steak and Beetroot are edged in between two charcoal burnt slices of bread, giving the taste of the sandwich that smoky feel. Chips and Hollandaise serve as supplements on the plate of this meal.

The star of the menu, however, is the Penne Boscaiola in my opinion. Shaves of tomato, bacon, onion, garlic and fresh parsely all combine with the thick creaminess of the sauce and pasta to give the meal rich flavour. Shaved slices of parmesan cheese also give the meal a peculiar presentation, in a good way.

As for beverages, a variety of wines are offered on the menu such as sparkling, red and white wines as some of the many options. For the men, beer and alcohol are served in the hotel bar next to the .

All in all, I recommend that for those who plan to travel through the Blue Mountains for the weekend or who just wish to spend the day, to stop off at the to enjoy a nice, quaint lunch.
