For those with dietary requirements – either self-imposed or not – an indulgent session at a high tea has become a thing of the past. The decadent tiers of an average petit-fours feast are filled with gluten, dairy, refined sugars and flours– poisonous beasts to most Paleo, Vegan, lactose-intolerant and coeliac dieters. But never fear, Sadhana Kitchen in Sydney's Inner-West has come to the rescue.
At $55 dollars a head, Sadhana's Raw Vegan High Tea doesn't come cheap but it's well worth the expense. Nothing is sacrificed on this inventive menu (well, except of course the aforementioned 'undesirable' ingredients) which is adjusted regularly to keep up with the seasons.
You could find yourself munching on 'coconut bacon' or a Reuben sandwich where seasoned eggplant is used in place of pastrami and the bread is made from a gluten-free, refined-free concoction of corn and other wholefoods.
The sweets are similarly innovative. Caramel slice made with dates and tahini, nut-based cheesecake and scones with chia jam and coconut cream adorn the top layers of your high tea stand. But the real icing on the cake is the Better than a Tim Tam – cacao-chocolate covered, gluten and refined-free biscuits that taste just like the real thing.
While you might think the best part about a traditional high tea is the butter, the sugar, the cream and the eggs, rest assured Sadhana's Raw Vegan High Tea won't leave you wanting, especially on the taste front. The delectable treats on this menu are just as delicious as conventional cakes and even more so when you consider they're devoid of refined sugar and supposedly, therefore, guilt-free.
This a great treat for those on specialised diets, or even for people wanting to be adventurous and try something new.
To enjoy Sadhana's High Tea, you must book in advance.
