I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Organic Fruit and Veggies for Sale

Organic Foods are gaining in popularity as shoppers become more interested in eating healthy produce. Brisbane's retailers are starting to realise the need to set up organic stores where shoppers can choose freely. Many Weekend Notes Writers have done the leg work for you to check out your Organic options in the Brisbane area.

Markets have always been a source of organic foods and Brisbane has some dedicated Organic Markets. On the North side of town the Northey Street Markets are a long standing provider of Organic Foods. Held every Sunday morning between 6:00 and 10:30am in Windsor, here you will find a wide range of fruit, veggies, meats and other delights.

Further afield on the North Side in Caboolture are the Caboolture Organic Farmer's Markets..
These markets are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, and many of the stalls sell Certified Organic Produce, giving discerning shoppers peace of mind that their purchases will be free from nasty pesticides and chemicals.

If you don't want to wait for the weekend to buy your organic goodies, then why not visit one of the many organic stores which are popping up all over town? Shoppers in West End can head off to The Green Grocer on Boundary Street. With shelves packed with organic teas and coffees, chocolate coated goji berries and other delights, it's worth trip.

Not far from there is Mrs Flannerys, near the Mater on Ipswich Road at Wooloongabba, or visit one of the Mrs Flannerys stores found in other suburbs around Brisbane, like Taringa, Wynnum, Chermside or Loganholme. These stores have pretty much everything you'd find in a run of the mill grocery store and are open in normal grocery store hours.

One of the newer chains of Organic stores in town are Wray Organic. With shops found in Mt Gravatt, Cannon Hill, Wynnum, Newmarket and Indooroopily, these stores selling a wide range of organic goods have the added bonus of an on site cafe where you can recharge with a nice organic coffee or tasty treat.

In Paddington, Fundies Organic Wholefoods Cafe offers more than just a bite to eat. Check out the shelves of organic produce sourced from all over the world as well as Australian Organic Producers.

You Can Often Treat Yourself to an Organic Morning Tea on Your Shopping Trip

Shoppers in Morningside would probably have driven past Planet Matterz on Wynnum Road, also boasting a cafe in addition to a shop. Here you can treat yourself to organic meats, fruits and veggies as well as well as life style products like soaps, skin products and hair dyes.

I'm sure there are many more stores out there catering to our growing interest in organic products. Where are your favourites?

I get a weekly delivery from Home Fresh Organics - you can shop for exactly what you want or just get a set box each week. They have organic and non-organic fruit, veg, dairy and groceries - the quality has never disappointed. For specialty items I head to the Green Grocer at West End or as a last resort Mrs Flannerys (they have a fantastic range but the prices aren't what I'd call competitive!).

I have a great organic supplier in my area on the North West side. The Gap LOCO have been delivering certified organics for years and just recently opened up a cute little shop. Really lovely spot to go with friends when I want to shop them the area as it is close to a community garden and creek walk. Food is well presented and always fresh. They sell reduced food as well as part of their sustainability push. Very impressed ! Here's their website, they put stuff on facebook too :)

I get from the Organic Farm Share which is a community-owned business. Orders can be placed online and the farmshare bus - a refrigirated mobile shop - brings produce from the farm in northern NSW and surrounding suppliers to Brisbane every Saturday morning. Additional goods can be bought on the spot. The produce is normally only available to owner-members but it is currently open to friends and family as well, so contact them and find out about becoming a
