The
new campground at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park has opened after a long period of anticipation and is just as beautiful as expected. This campground, which used to be run by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has been given a number of upgrades that highlight the fabulous wildlife and stunning views appreciated by visitors for years.
The campground has a variety of options to suit the many different tastes of campers, all set within a World Heritage rainforest site, and frequented by birds and wildlife.
Two of the seventeen safari tents have disabled access, and all of them are powered. Many of these are quite private, with their decks directly overlooking the rainforest.
There are also 21 campervan or camper trailer sites, and 24 altitude and basecamp sites that are suitable for tents and adventures undertaking multi-day hikes through the Gold Coast Hinterland.
A gorgeous communal kitchen with gigantic windows takes in the best of the views across the McPherson Range, while a large fire pit behind it provides an ideal gathering place on cold mountain evenings. The campground also features new amenities buildings and a meeting room that is known as The Hub. Pathways and ramps around the campground ensure accessibility for all guests.
Rates vary by season and are displayed below, and bookings can be made

For many years the campground area at O'Reilly's has been famed for its bird and wildlife, and this remains the same after the upgrade.
Visitors are often delighted to find pademelons grazing on the lawns outside their tents at sunrise, while regent and satin bower birds frequent the trees above them.
Campground guests are only a short walk from the O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat shop and restaurant which sell many camping necessities such as torches and fresh milk in addition to delicious meals. There is also a designated feeding area that brings many of the wild, colourful parrots closer for visitors to interact with under the monitoring of researchers and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.
Although many places in Queensland are too hot to contemplate camping at during the summer months, the Gold Coast Hinterland mountains and rainforests are frequently a few degrees cooler than the surrounding area making this an ideal base for summer adventures outdoors.
