The vineyard and cellar door operation is about 13 kilometres from Albany in the Great Southern.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla) stopped by as part of their national tour.

They were in the area to visit the National Anzac Centre

The owners of the vineyard, who made a sea-change of a type, moved from Perth, to Albany, before spending about a decade putting their heart and souls into creating their organic wine label.

The Prince has a keen interest in organic wines, so would have been interested to learn about how things operate ot Oranje Tractor. Being organic, they use chickens and guinea fowl to control pests instead of chemicals and concoctions such as 'compost tea' to deal with disease.

They have also been creative in dealing with weeds, using ryegrass to smother the weeds.

The name Oranje Tractor comes from a 1964 Fiat tractor which has done much of the hard work to create the little piece of paradise.

Dutch travellers who've worked on the farm over the years are to thank for the spelling of 'Oranje'.

Those behind Oranje Tractor describe their wines as 'fruit-driven' and the royal couple would have had a choice of a number of reds, whites, sparkling, rose and fortified wines on offer.
