Mozart's The Magic Flute will be performed on the Gold Coast during 9 -11 May 2014. However, instead of being hosted in a typical theatre venue, this opera will move outdoors and onto the beach, at Coolangatta. So it's an opera "under the stars" opportunity for those keen to attend. Premium tickets ($79) will include seating on a low beach chair. A ($54) & B ($39) Reserve seats will sit on the beach. Click here for more info on

The venue opens at 5pm with a 6.30pm start. Since the seating is unreserved, go along early and choose your spot, then you can sit and enjoy a sunset picnic. The event will take place on Greenmount Beach at Coolangatta (in front of the Greenmount Surf Club).
Dress code for the evening has no rules attached - "although it's always great fun to frock up for the occasion and make a glamorous night of it, dressing up is not mandatory". I wonder what Mozart would make of a beach production. It's a world away from the premier in 1791 in Vienna. Audience stomping at the end of the performance is an operatic tradition to show appreciation – a trifle tricky on the sand for this performance, so you may just have to resort to clapping. The stars, the music, the open air beach setting, all look set to provide a memorable opera experience, so if the beauty of Mozart's music delights you, then get your tickets organized.
