In the mood to don your black tie, wander among the grape vines at sunset and listen to a spot of Puccini, performed live by Opera Queensland?
Sunset @ Opera in the Vineyard
Opera in the Vineyard is a charity event held during the May Day Long Weekend each year in the spectacular vineyards of Ballandean Estate Wines. The event, operating in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Stanthorpe, will celebrate its 20th Birthday in 2012 and donates thousands of dollars to charities, particularly The Wesley Hospital, annually.
Ballandean Estate Wines is located near Stanthorpe in the Southern Downs' Granite Belt Region, three hours (220kms) south west of Brisbane. The Boutique vineyard has been operated by the Puglisi Family since 1929, making it the largest and oldest family owned and operated winery in Queensland. They crush 350 tonnes of grapes each year and export to Taiwan and Canada. Every day visitors to the vineyard may sample and purchase wine from the Cellar Door or eat a gourmet lunch at The Barrel Room Cafe.

Opera Queensland has announced artists Emma Matthews, Virgilio Marino and Andrew Collis will be performing at Opera in the Vineyard 2012. There are several different tickets on offer: guests can choose to spend the whole day at Ballandean Estate, only attend the lunchtime performance, or only attend the evening performance, followed by a Gala Dinner Dance. Complimentary buses will operate between Stanthorpe, Warwick and Tenterfield and the Estate transporting opera goers to and fro.
