Event:
Featuring four of Australia's most successful operatic stars

Opera in the Market makes a triumphant return to the historic Queen Victoria Market on March 4. Tickets are now on sale.

Celebrating its twenty-first anniversary, Opera in the Market offers a dramatic program of opera arias and classics from music theatre performed by Australia's finest opera singers.

This memorable evening of entertainment will see K Shed transformed into a splendid concert venue with four of Australia's most successful operatic stars taking centre stage. During the evening, Opera Australia principal soprano Taryn Fiebig, acclaimed mezzo soprano Milijana Nikolic, tenor Rosario La Spina and bass baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes will perform works by Saint-Saëns, Puccini, Donizetti, Mozart, Rossini and Bizet.

The famed duets 'O soave funciulla' from La bohème, 'Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix' from Samson et Dalila and 'Là ci darem la mano' from Don Giovanni – the title role which Rhodes has made his own – will be among them.

The audience will also hear young adult singers from Opera Scholars Australia's voice development program, which has shaped the talents and forged the aspirations of a new generation of opera performers for more than two decades.

The current scholars' interpretation of Aaron Copland's superb hymn to farming from his 1954 opera The Tender Land, led by young tenor Thomas Harvey, will be a program highlight.

Other singers will include OSA Scholar of the Year 2019 and Melbourne Conservatorium graduate Chloe Harris performing Gounod's 'Faites-lui mes aveux' from Faust.

The program will be accompanied by a 45-piece orchestra, Symphony Australis, directed by conducted by ABC Classic FM compere Guy Noble and supported by a 70-voice chorus performing works from Carmen and La Traviata.

Tickets are now on sale through www.operainthemarket.com.au and priced from $69. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the OSA program, to which donations are tax-deductible. Early bookings are encouraged.

Ticketholders can purchase food from Melbourne's best food vans, coordinated by Fred and Ginger's Catering and premium Victorian wines and handcrafted beer.

Opera in the Market is sponsored by global construction company Multiplex.
