What's not to like about opera? You get to listen a heroic story-line, a possible love triangle or perhaps some manipulations and intrigue. There are usually some gorgeous costumes, beautiful singing and melodies.



Mazda Opera in the Domain is an open-air concert held in the Phillip Precinct of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Sydney. On Saturday 13 January 2018 at 8pm, everyone can get a night of free opera. That is right FREE!

This event has been running since 2000 and it is sponsored by Mazda. It attracted a record crowd of more than 24,000 people in 2017, Mazda Opera in the Domain is the ultimate Sydney summer experience.

This is the ideal opportunity for first-time and seasoned opera-goers alike to experience the magic of opera, with highlights from the world's most popular operas, such as, 'Nessun dorma' from Turandot, The Flower Duet from Lakmé and The Toreador's Song from Carmen performed by Australia's finest opera singers and Opera Australia Orchestra.

This free concert celebrates the magic and memorable moments in opera, and everyone can come and hear Australia's brightest stars, under the stars, sing opera's most famous arias.

There will be various food and beverage stalls on the day. Pre-show entertainment commences from 4pm. You are welcome to bring your own food and alcohol, however, glass drinking glasses are not permitted on site. So gather a few friends, sit back and enjoy an enchanting evening under the stars and be swept up by the soaring melodies of some of the world's greatest music at this all-ages event.

Please note, this event will go ahead if rain is forecast. Umbrellas are allowed until the performance begins. Public transport is recommended as there is limited parking available.

This is one of the most popular open-air events in Australia and it is a loved and enduring part of Australia's cultural landscape.
