The Events Centre Caloundra is the largest performing arts and conference venue on the Sunshine Coast, and is presently in the midst of a massive redevelopment, hopefully to be completed in late April 2019. The contemporary improvements will include an upgraded theatre, a covered deck area, function room and a covered entrance. To celebrate the opening season of this new multi-million dollar redevelopment in Caloundra, here is a quick guide to the exciting events happening in May. I'm sneaking one in for Sunday 28 April as it's a pretty special one.

I'm sure you've all noticed that 'Hughsie' hasn't had a haircut since last year and is sporting quite the mop. Everybody is asking: 'what's prompted this radical change?'.'Is Hughsie going through 'man-o-pause'? What does his wife think? Does she ever see him anymore?' So many questions! The only way to find out the answers is to make sure you get it straight from the horse's mouth. Don't miss out on Dave Hughes, one of Australia's favourite comedians, in his stand-up Hairy show.

The Sunshine Coast's very own Oriana Choir is proudly bringing audiences this magnificent oratorio - a large scale, usually narrative musical work - in partnership with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra. Mendelssohn's choral and orchestral masterwork characterises events in the life of the Biblical prophet, Elijah, with lyrics based directly on the text of the Old Testament books of I and II Kings.
Oriana Choir in partnership with Brisbane Symphony Orchestra brings you Elijah
The oratorio was first premiered in 1846 and is regarded as one of the greatest choral works still being performed all over the world. Mendelssohn got his inspiration from his baroque heroes, Handel and Bach, but this music is solely Mendelssohn's and reflects his genius as a romantic composer.
The Oriana Choir is honoured to be under the directorship of renowned choral conductor Andrew Wailes.
Soloists for Mendelssohn's pièce de résistance will be:
Elijah - Daniel Smerdon
Soprano - Elizabeth Wallis Gaedtke
Alto - Anne Fulton
Tenor - Phillip Prendergast
