I am sailing, I am sailing...
This is something that I used to do - or was that in a previous life? My husband used to have a yacht and we went sailing often - like every weekend. I did not enjoy this sport as I found it a bit boring and monotonous doing the same thing all the time.
But this is not all about my past, as it is about those who love and enjoy this sport and enjoy sailing on our river.
All members and guests are welcome to the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club's 122nd Opening Day. On this day, there will be an Official Opening on 3rd November from 8.00 am to 11.00 pm for the 2019 - 2020 Season. This will be a fabulous day where we can all have a good time and celebrate our club with fellow members. The address is Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club Inc, Esplanade, Dalkeith.
It will start at 8.00 am with the Junior Sailing beginning at 9.00 am.
The kitchen will be open so that you can hav a breakfast of bacon and egg rolls for $5 at 10.00 am. Junior's Sausage Sizzle on the foreshore, with some giant games and bouncy castle, will be open at 11.00 am.
The kitchen will again open at 1.00 pm for lunch with the Opening Ceremony beginning at 2.00 pm. There will be official Sail Pasts at 2.30 pm and also official races with presentations, which will then follow in the Members' Lounge.
They are going to have a Sail Past and this will involve all Sail and Powerboats at the club and it will incur going past the club's Start Box and saluting the actual Commodore. They always encourage all members to dress their vessels for this spectacular day, so that everything will be looking at its best.
If you need any more information, please contact the Office at reception phone 9386 6437 or email

At this Squadron, there is a Keelboat sailing. Whether you are a very ambitious Olympic hopeful or perhaps you are just a relative sailing novice who is still wet behind the ears, Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club can offer you competitive sailing at a level to suit your needs. This is regardless of whether you own a boat or not.
The experience of the sailors may be very different and their craft may come in many shapes and sizes, but there is one thing that is guaranteed - there is a thrill and an exhilaration that so often comes with racing in the water.
The sailing calendar includes regular club racing with fixed and laid mark events and with special events. Each week on a weekly basis, the keelboats race in a mixed fleet, divisions 1 2, 3 & 4. This is a competitive race and well managed by experienced sailors.
There is also the twilight sailing which has been popular in Western Australia for so very many years. In Perth, our weather is just ideal for us to have these fun and exciting races.
Twilight Sailing is a regular part of this Summer Sailing Calendar and it is held weekly on Wednesday evenings at 6:20 pm. Boats from all around the Swan River are all eager to take part in this sort of race/social event.
It is perhaps less of a race and more of a social event, as people who go out on the water after a full day's work, enjoy this great passion as the sun sets slowly in the West.
