Katrina Newman Contemporary Jewellery Open Studio 69 Cinerama Crescent, McCrae
19 & 26 November 2017
Katrina Newman is an accomplished silver and goldsmith, artist, designer and maker. Her contemporary statement jewellery sits well in the modern environment, yet without a doubt has longevity as classic pieces. Using the ancient technique of cuttlefish casting, her jewellery evokes thoughts of the sea, summertimes on the beach, and our great Australian landscape. With markings of desert tracks, waves, drifting sands and sea foam; they're a fine example of the work that goes into her one off stunning designs.
Having just returned from the Canadian Wilderness Artist Residency, as the first Australian jewellery artist selected to attend the program in the Yukon Territory, Katrina will be sharing her experiences on Open Studio days. Come along and see new work, learn about her plans for 2018 and get some unique Christmas gifts for loved ones at the same time. Her studio on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula will not only have silver and gold pieces, but other alternative materials and lampwork glass beads that Katrina fashions into beautiful earrings and necklaces. Meet the artist and enjoy an up-close and personal jewellery encounter of the best kind. If you absolutely cannot take up this wonderful opportunity and make the two dates of Open Studio, Katrina also sells her jewellery on Etsy.
