The Open State Festival is your chance to explore SA's future, a captivating, fun and thought-provoking event for all South Australians. From future food to future human, organisations all around SA have come together to bring you Open State events on six themes – and you can take part with fun activities, free workshops, captivating exhibitions and many more exciting things to do.
Head to an event like Are You Bug Curious. Sample a range of insects and insect-based products and meet Australia's passionate bug eaters, farmers and enthusiasts. Learn how to match insects with the right wine. Are insects a super food? Can they save the planet?
Or take part in Post Dining – Future Conversations. This award winning concept takes audiences on a journey through four imagined scenarios of Australia 2050. Dine under the themes of Growth and Restraint, overcoming Catastrophe, to reach an ultimate Transformation. It's being held at the Old Regent Cinema in Regent Arcade.
Visit Future Cities With the Festival of Architecture and Design
There's plenty of exciting fun for children and families. Don't miss the International Astronautical Congress's public exhibition. Adelaide will host the world's largest space conference and the exhibition is open to the public for just one day only. Governments, space agencies and companies will showcase the latest developments in the space industry. It's at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 29 September, from 8am to 3pm.
Future Planet: Watch the World Solar Challenge at Open State Adelaide
Children's University has partnered with Open State Festival to ensure children have a chance to hear from local and international speakers who will deliver child-friendly presentations looking at the future. And AIIA @ The Dome in Victoria Square will have demonstrations of digital and tech goodies across Open State's themes.
Designer Scavenger Hunt - Discover your City is brought to Open State as part of the Festival of Architecture and Design. You'll be given clues and embark on a journey where you can engage with spaces in a way you haven't imagined, while enjoying Adelaide's design character and hidden gems. Food and drinks are provided at the end of the hunt - but bookings are essential, so get in early.

Do you like to ponder the future of the planet and the role you can play? There are plenty of free panels to choose from featuring international and local speakers. Delve into artificial intelligence as part of the audience at Future Jobs in a World of Artificial Intelligence. The Innovation Symposium will work through some of the key issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, debunking some of the myths. Hear what Tia Kansara has to say about replenishing the planet, and Alex Betts on the future for asylum seekers and migration at the free Hugo Lecture.
