Every year, the lovely folk at the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia get together to organise one of their most celebrated events of the year - The Open Mind Fiesta, which this year is celebrating its 10th Anniversary.
Did you know 1 in 5 Australians suffer from a mental illness? If you didn't, don't worry. Most people don't realise either that a large proportion of our population suffers from this illness, and that's exactly what the Open Mind Fiesta is trying to overcome, to help raise awareness in our community.
The Open Mind Fiesta has something for everybody. Live music, performers, craft stalls, children's rides, and scrumptious food will be showcased in this street festival. Each year the Fiesta brings thousands of people together to show their support for the one in five people in Australia with mental illness.
The event is part of Mental Health Week, which aims to educate and engage Victorians about mental health through a week of exciting events such as community festivals, art exhibitions, music, theatre and seminars. For further information on other events, please go to the Mental Health Week website.
So if you're in the mood for some festivity, come and celebrate at the Open Mind Fiesta and show your support. Who could resist yummy food, live music, street entertainment and a crowd full of smiles, all for a good cause.
