It's always thrilling to catch a glimpse of a vintage vehicle when we're out and about, road-tripping throughout the country-side. In comparison to the sleek functional lines of our modern forms of transport, vintage cars exude a grace and sense of nostalgia that captivates most of us - regardless whether or not we're 'into' cars – and many of secretly harbour a fondness for them. Celebrating the golden years of vintage motoring, on Sunday November 22th, the South West Rail and Heritage Centre in Boyanup will be holding a special open day during which these classic old vehicles will take centre stage.

Situated just eighteen kilometres south-east of Bunbury, the South West Rail and Heritage Centre is one of the area's most-loved attractions. Every month the centre holds a special family-friendly open day focusing on a particular aspect of local history, and this month it's Vintage Vehicles Day, featuring an awesome assortment of beautifully-restored vintage vehicles. Ranging from classic old automobiles, to trucks, bikes, tractors, farm machinery and railway rolling stock, there will be plenty to see and do for everyone from the littlest 'truck-man' to the most elderly grand-pop. And I can guarantee that it won't be just the blokes who eye these beauties off – with their sleek old-fashioned good looks I think there will be plenty of ladies who'll be loitering around this exhibition as well.

Apart from the vehicle exhibition, there will be plenty of other things for visitors to see and do during a visit to the South West Rail and Heritage Centre. The talented members of the Boyanup Foundation Blacksmiths are always a popular attraction as they work at their anvil, providing the public with a rare opportunity to see this ancient trade in action. Another big attraction at the centre is its model railway, and visitors young and old often can often be seen watching it, completely spell-bound as it makes its way along its route. The Capel Men's Shed will also have their handwork on show and for sale, so if you're looking for a special handmade Christmas gift for a loved-one this could be the place to find it.

Finally, if you're visiting with children, the South West Rail and Heritage Centre always provides special creative activities for them on their open days - meaning that they're guaranteed to have a great time as well. If you forgot to pack something to eat, the centre's delightful vintage picnic van will also be purveying light refreshments on the day.

In a nutshell, if you're wanting to take a road-trip 'down south' before the scorching hot weather of summer kicks in, a visit to the South West Rail and Heritage Centre may be just what you're looking for. With so much to see and do for people of all ages, as well as some great opportunities for Christmas shopping, a trip to this wonderful heritage centre is certain to be a winner with the whole family.

The South West Rail and Heritage Centre's Variety of Vintage Vehicles Open Day will be taking place on Sunday November 22nd, from 10am until 2pm. Entry is by donation, making it a very affordable outing for everyone.

The South West Rail and Heritage Centre is located on Turner Street in Boyanup. To find out more, visit the Rail Heritage WA website . Alternatively call Norm on 0459 712 552 or email [email protected].
