A day out for everyone
Do you like delving into the past? Do you like looking at magnificently restored cars from years gone by?
Are you interested in the art of photography? Do you like playing and listening to music?
Sunday the 9th of July. A day not to be missed at Linnwood House. Image courtesy of the Friends of Linnwood.
If so, you need to set aside Sunday the 9th of July 2017 as the Friends of Linnwood House have invited everyone along to their Open Day.
While you are there, you will be to wander around the 5 hectares of manicured grounds at Guildford in the Western Suburbs of Sydney.
This house was built in 1891 by George McCredie, a prominent businessman of the day, Mayor of Holroyd, and Independent member for the State seat of Central Cumberland.
You will also be able to chat to the owners who have restored their pride and joy vehicles for others to be amazed at. You will be able to look under the hoods of some of the cars to see how much care has been taken to restore these cars to their former glory.
While you are there, you will be entertained by the fantastic Toongabbie Music Club who will be performing at various times throughout the day. Maybe you could ask for a special request. Inside the house, there will be a display from the Fairfield City Camera Club, a number of arts and craft stalls.
You will be able to watch the amazing members of the Western Sydney Wood Turners carve out some of their masterpieces and have a chat to the members of the Traditional Tool Group while having either a sausage sizzle or sitting down to a Devonshire Tea and cakes.
Don't forget to go inside the house and check out what's going on. Image by Gary Brown
For a small fee of $3, you will be able to go inside the house and marvel at the way that it has been restored with the help of the Friends of Linnwood. The Friends of Linnwood Inc formed in 2002 after a community led campaign was successful in saving the Linnwood Estate from being sold and redeveloped. They hold regular Open Days to raise money for continued restoration and conservation work on the house, all of which is done by volunteers, working together to promote Linnwood throughout the local and wider community.

To help out a great cause in keeping the Historic Linnwood House up to its former glory you should set aside a time to come along to the July 2017 Open Day. Don't forget to tell them that Gary said to pay them a visit. Hope to see you there.
