Everyone has a story to tell. Whether it's boasting to friends of a hedonistic night of drunken acrobatics or confessing a series of murders to a television commissioning board, the ability to string together a sequence of events into a captivating narrative is a skill we all possess. Since the earliest days of communication stories were handed down between generations, used as life lessons, imparting the wisdom of elders to the young who won't stop doing something just because you tell them to.

Modern media consumption trends have forced brevity on getting your point across. Whether it's the 140-character limit of Twitter, the ten second disposable snippets of Snapchat or an entire article commented on after reading nothing but its headline. It's easy to think that stories in their long form are becoming a thing of the past. Yet the instant gratification of these mediums are limited in how much they can satisfy or inform. Like stuffing your face full of sweet lollies at Christmas then later stumbling through the haze of a sugar crash. The instant gratification is strong, but it ends up leaving you wanting.

Jenny Wynter and Jasmine Fairbairn know this feeling all too well, which is why they started their own storytelling night in Brisbane. A monthly event that draws on people from all walks of life to hear what they have to say. There's no fixed theme and the speakers draw from their own perspectives and prejudices to enthral the audience with their story. Armed with nothing but a microphone, they challenges your views, make you cry with laughter one minute, then sympathy in the next. In a short space of time you're drawn into their world and get to hear the sorts of truths from strangers that you may never otherwise enjoy.

Both Jenny and Jasmine have prestigious backgrounds in comedy and have lived extraordinary lives that could generate enough fascinating material to warrant a regular event just to themselves. They were both part of the legendary Loose Moose theatre in Calgary, Canada though didn't cross each other's paths until separately moving to Brisbane. Their destinies entwined, as though it was destiny. They know what makes a great story and know the best way to make it fascinating. With both being active in the local performance arts scene, it enables them curate each show to bring the most interesting people to the stage.

No two events are the same and you never know what you're going to get until you go. With each story you're transported to the world of the narrator, at the mercy of their words. It's a connection that is built through trust in the person talking, sending your mind in directions you'd never expect. The best things come to those who wait.
