Did you know that 2019 marks 20 years since Reverse Garbage Queensland officially opened its doors? In celebration of this milestone, they'll be putting on an Open Block Party at their RGQ Warehouse at 20 Burke Street in Woolloongabba on Sunday 14 April from 4.00 pm to 8pm. At the free anniversary party, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. My regular readers know how much I love Reverse Garbage and this promises to be not garbage at all.

Meet the Maker Market will be featuring some of Brisvegas's local eco artisans:
  • Annika Willauer - macrame
  • Grey and Bird - reclaimed timber
  • Paul O'Sullivan - reclaimed timber
  • Sue Gordon - wood blocks
  • Silvanna Sawyer - upcycled jewellery and embroidery
  • Kate Judson - salvaged metal jewellery
  • Wulfhure Daelman - cosplay
  • Anita Gosden - leatherware
  • Jhoomka - upcycled jewellery
  • Woodrock Turning - reclaimed timber mushrooms
  • Ivy Lane - jewellery and homewares
  • Sally Bowers - bags and headbands

  • Don't miss the free Maker Spaces for kids and adults which will feature the Brisbane Tool Library, Enjoy RGQ Workshops and there will be live entertainment from 6.00 pm with local Brisbane band, Pick It Up. Bring friends, neighbours and all the family along to bop to the uplifting sounds of this local eight-piece brass band. Celebrate the night at the maker spaces and night markets. Best of all is that this is a free event. All you need to do is spread the word, turn up and enjoy all the festivities.

    Order of Events:
4.00 pm - Eco Maker Markets, Cruelty Free BBQ, Maker Spaces
5.00 pm - Official open by BCC Councillor Jonathan Sri, Member for the Gabba Ward
5:15 pm - Warehouse opens for 'Night Trade'
6.00 pm - Live entertainment by local brass band, Pick It Up
    8.00pm - Event closes,
For further details, see RGQ Facebook.

    Friends of the Earth
RVQ was set up in 1998 to help support the work of Friends of the Earth (FoE) in Brisbane. FoE is a social change organisation working towards an ecologically sustainable and socially just future through community action. For more information on FoE, current campaigns and volunteering call 07-3171 2255, email [email protected] or visit FoE's website.

    Public Transport
You can take public transport to the warehouse as it is close walking distance (less than five minutes) from both Park Road train station and Boggo Rd bus station as well as bus stops along Ipswich Road (approximately 10 minutes). Public transport runs very frequently to these stops. Check out Translink for all the routes and timetables.

    Parking Facilities
There are seven parking spaces in front of the Warehouse plus two-hour street parking available around the corner on Elliott Street. Please don't use the car parks of businesses on Burke Street as you may get towed.
