17 Boniface St, Archerfield is a mere 15 minutes from the CBD; that's where you'll find not one, but two massive op shops. The Lifeline Supastore and The Salvation Army differ in their merchandise but both are a bargain hunter's dream.

This particular Lifeline does not stock clothing, it's all about homewares. The bulk of stock is furniture (both new and used) and includes office desks and filing cabinets, wardrobes, dining and bedroom suites, and couches galore.

Bric a bric is its next strong suit and kitchenware such as pans, crockery, glassware and tupperware abound. There are pictures and frames, knick knacks, cushions ($3-$6), and a smattering of jewellery, cds and records.

There is a strong children's element present with bikes, beds and mattresses and a whole wall of toys and games. This brand new canopy bed was going for $500.

An extensive $2 book selection precedes a linen and fabrics section and opposite that, in the back corner is a generous sized electrics and appliances section which stocks TVs, lamps and a heap of kitchen appliances.

A couple of doors down in the same complex is the mammoth Salvation Army store. Just inside the front door is a somewhat strange and unexpected wall of new household, cleaning and body products at discounted prices, brands include Palmolive, Dove and Imperial Leather. Additionally you will find brand new umbrellas, bath mats, men's caps and other miscellaneous items.

The focus of this store is clothing. It's very well organised and in addition to a mass of women's clothing there are very decent sized children's and men's sections. There is a small amount of furniture, books, bric a brac, jewellery and sewing paraphernalia here, and an adequate, well priced bag and shoe section.

Admittedly the store has very little to offer in the way of vintage or retro, but you can get lucky if you're prepared to be the hunter. On my last visit I picked up a vintage port for $10, which no doubt would have cost me 3 times as much at one of the inner city op shops.

I find pricing in both of these stores to be more than reasonable - no doubt about it, you can't beat the prices out there in the suburbs. I also picked up this little green number for a meagre $6!

There is plenty of parking onsite and access is via Lilydale Street off Beaudesert Road. Opening hours are:

Lifeline: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5.00pm
Saturday - 8.30am - 3.00pm
Sunday - 10.00am - 2.00pm

and The Salvation Army: Monday - Saturday 9.00am - 5.00pm
