Shop till you Drop Half Price Bargains for a worthy cause
The Australian Refugee Association's Rejuvenate Op Shop on Henley Beach Road in Underdale has been running for almost two years and during that time it has provided many refugee clients with crockery, household goods, clothing and linen. It also includes a furniture donations program which provides new arrivals with furniture necessities such as beds, lounges and kitchen furniture. This program will continue to run at the ARA, although the shop itself will be closing on the 14th June. Any money raised through the shop goes toward the programs and services ARA provide.
The shop has provided some of our new arrivals with work experience and volunteer opportunities," says Louise Warren, the shop's manager. "It has been great to be able to give them an opportunity to improve their English language skills as well as providing a way for the public to meet actual refugees, who then become part of their personal experience. Some of our young clients have also been learning to make art and craft items, restore furniture and pot plants, and the shop was a great outlet to sell these items and create more public interest and awareness of refugees".
Makame Seasay with Peter Birdsey, one of the longest serving shop volunteers
Makeme Sesay came to Australia as a refugee from Liberia seven years ago. She came to work at the op shop on work experience from Woodville High School, choosing to come to ARA so she could become involved in helping people in similar situations to her own experience.

Leading up to the closing of the shop, everything is now selling at half price! It will be open from Tuesday June 10th to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and on Saturday June 14th from 10am to 4pm.
