Citi Centre Arcade has always felt like an enigma, with the shopping arcade being cleverly tucked away on the quieter end of Rundle Mall. There are a variety of shops that call this little arcade their home and the newest one to open their doors is the alternative vintage store called ONYX Vintage.
The store is run and co-owned by Bernie Elston and Tegan Solly, who have incorporated their personal styles and sense of fashion into the items they sell at this well-kept secret in the Arcade. The store is part of a
Renew Adelaide project, where the non-profit organisation helps local businesses set themselves up in a rent-free space for 30 days in the Adelaide CBD and Port Adelaide regions.
After running pop-up stalls and shops across markets in Sydney and Adelaide, Bernie and Tegan decided to bring their retail experience together and amalgamate to form a joint store that would showcase their pre-loved clothing and accessories for the public to buy second-hand, while still being in mostly excellent condition. Bernie was inspired to name her store ONYX Vintage after Jeffree Star's cosmetic shade of makeup, and it is apparent in seeing those elements of design and fashion subtly decorating the store.
You name it, they probably have it - skirts, jeans, trousers, tees, sunnies, shoes, hair ties, vinyl, and so much more. Most recently, ONYX Vintage had a weekend where most items in store were being sold at the starting price of $2. It's safe to say that the store was pretty much wiped out and a lot of people walked out with unique, one-of-a-kind presents for their loved ones.
What makes this vintage store stand out from the rest is that it has a bunch of second-hand gems that allow your inner beauty to come out. The clothes here are extravagant, drag-friendly and challenge your bold personality to come out and shine in a judgment-free manner. While most of the stock may cater to women, there are heaps of accessories that are unisex and can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their gender.
The shoes, for example, possess some seriously loud yet attractive patterns that are bound to make you the star, no matter where you are. Similarly, there is an entire rack dedicated to flannel wear.
ONYX Vintage also stocks co-founder Tegan's hair accessories that are part of Sniggle Curios that have been designed to represent some of the most well-loved pop culture icons, such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, as well as TV icons and personalities such as Dexter and Buffy.
Follow ONYX Vintage on Facebook and keep yourselves updated with their sales, what's currently in stock, and how much more awesome your wardrobe is going to get, with their eccentric collection. After all, it's good to dress bold and stand out in the crowd.
