Only the Brave is the story of 20 men whose sole desire is to protect their small but historic Arizona town. A town surrounded by a stunning natural environment filled with beauty and wildlife.
Only the Brave tells the story of a group of municipal firefighters who undertake the journey to join the most highly trained in the country. They undertake extensive training, maintain peak physical fitness and seek to undertake the most difficult, dangerous and stressful assignments. This is the story of how Station 7 of the Prescott Fire Department become the Granite Mountain Hotshots. A story of triumph, life and heroism, but also about love, devastation and intense sadness.
Eric "Supe" Marsh (Josh Brolin) heads up Station 7 and is leading his crew to become Hotshots. The elite, best of the best. Firefighters who go into rugged, inaccessible terrain to fight wildfire with only what they can carry. No trucks, no water, just their torches, and their knowledge and experience.
In the midst of this journey, we meet Brendan "Donut" McDonough; a young drug addict about to become a dad. Recently out of jail and kicked out of home, Brendan is looking to clean up his life and having previously undertaken training, has heard there are slots available and is looking to join Station 7. Brendan does it tough, but quickly becomes a valuable rookie member of the crew.
Throughout the story, Station 7 experience immense frustration as they are consistently overlooked on the fire ground. Even though they have undertaken extensive training, they are not yet accredited and their knowledge of the terrain and experience with fighting wildfire is not taken seriously. However, Eric soon elicits the help of his good friend Duane Steinbrink (Jeff Bridges) to help him achieve his goals. Duane is able to get Station 7 the break they need and they pass evaluation fighting a wildfire in 2008.
On 28 June 2013, multiple fires are started by lightning on a ridge west of Yarnell, Arizona. The fire is in a boulder field in steep terrain with no vehicle access however much is at risk; people, infrastructure and the environment. On 30 June 2013, the Granite Mountain Hotshots are called in and commence work in Alpha Division.
You will relive their day from the moment they arrive to undertake duty. You will follow them as they seek shelter from the firestorm coming. You will face the beast with them and run with the bear.
This is a story of love, life and heartbreak. This is a story of heroes. This is the story of 20 immensely brave individuals who loved their families, life, the environment and their country. This is the story of twenty heroes; 19 of which did not come home. This is the story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. "
It's not what stands in front of you, it's who stands beside you."
Only the Brave is in cinemas around Australia from 30 November 2017.
