I recently decided that I wanted to learn more about graphic design and also search engine optimisation (SEO) to help with my work. The first thing I did was jump online to see what courses were available in Sydney and preferably on the weekend, as my weeks get filled up.
I found several courses and the cost was somewhere between $500 to $800 per day. Some courses ran for a day and others for two or three days. Given the fact that it usually costs over $3000 to have your website optimised by an SEO expert, I thought that spending $500 was a good deal.
As I sat there looking at the course outlines, it suddenly occurred to me, rather than going out to do the course, perhaps I can do it online, in my pyjamas and sure enough there were plenty of courses available. They were even cheaper – averaging between $200 to $400 and the added bonus was that you could complete them whenever you had time.
I was getting excited. I would learn a new skill (what a great buzz), I would save a lot of money and I can do it in the comfort of my home at my own pace. "Does it get any better than this?" I wondered. And indeed it does!
I suddenly remembered hearing about a website called Lynda.com, where for a monthly subscription you can do as many courses as you want. I quickly went to investigate whether they have an SEO course and sure enough about 3 different courses. And the best news is it only costs $25 per month and you don't have to sign any contracts and do as many courses as you wish.
Hundreds of different courses are available including basic and advanced tutorials, which are easy to understand and follow. You can learn things such as Video Editing, iPad Tips and Tricks, Photo Restoration, Wordpress, Creating Email Newsletter, Twitter Essential Training, Social Media Marketing with Facebook, Gmail Essential Training, Building Professional Connections, Powerpoint, Outlook, Online Marketing Fundamentals, YouTube Training, Character Animation, Photoshop, Autocad, Mixing a Rock Song, Digital Audio Principals, Designing a Magazine Layout, Dreamweaver Website Development, Food and Drink Photography, eBay for Buyers, and hundreds more.
