One Night In Movember (In October) - Sydney

If you love the men in your life, especially any you know of who suffer from anxiety or are struggling with health issues or the pressures of life, One Night in Movember (In October) is a night not to be missed.

My husband has donned a tache the past 5 years and I have been a proud MoSista to raise much-needed funds for the Movember Foundation. It is a fantastic cause, their mission is to stop men dying too young and to help men live longer, happier and healthier lives. The focus areas for programs are prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health/suicide prevention. Movember has funded over 1200 men's health projects worldwide to date.

The men we know and love often struggle with anxiety or depression from pressures to be successful in their careers, provide for their families, have healthy and close relationships with their partners and children, care for ageing parents, maintain friendships and to try and keep fit and healthy in our ever increasing sedentary lifestyles.

Many men are also battling with emotional issues as their identity and concepts surrounding the measure of masculinity are shifting and being redefined within society. What does it really mean to be a man in 2017?

One Night in Movember (In October) aims to bring men together to find solutions and better understand how to look after themselves.

Originally a three-part series funded by the Movember Foundation, Man Up followed all 'round good guy Gus Worland, on a mission to tackle gender stereotypes, the pressures of manhood, and most importantly why so many men are taking their own lives. As the biggest killer of Australian men aged 15-44, it's an issue that can't be ignored.

Join 'One Night In Movember (in October)' and you'll see these topics (and more) covered. Guided by Tom Harkin from Man Up, guest speakers and audience members will have the chance to chat about real stuff in a relaxed, supportive environment. From sharing personal stories, discussions around being a man and the strength and value in talking with gravity – no topic is off the table.

This event is a chance for mates, brothers, fathers, partners, and sons from all walks of life, to look beyond stereotypes, talk about health and uncover what being a man really means in 2017.
