The Duck House are turning five and are kicking off their fifth birthday celebrations with the unmissable debut season of One Night Echo at PICA from Wednesday 7 November to Saturday 17 November 2012.

One Night Echo is a stunning contemporary theatre production combining captivating and dynamic performances with the tension and energy created by an on-stage jazz/grunge/funk fusion band.

The show takes a modern look at the Greek mythological stories of Narcissus and Echo and takes place at a
house party at 3am, where those who remain look for love in the dirt.

The Birthday Boy is in a world of his own, absorbed by his own brilliance. The Star laughs at The Nobody who stumbles alone in the moonlight. The Loner watches and waits. An Echo fights to be heard amongst the early morning tunes, a scattered cry of sadness drifting through the night.

In that blurry time between midnight and dawn, where self interest rules, the party people sparkle as the music plays on.

The award-winning independent theatre company, The Duck House's, vision is to create work that explores universal human experiences, investigating obsession, loss and patterns of self-destruction, through performance that is intimate, accessible and surprising.
Founded in 2007, The Duck House consists of director/producer Kathryn Osborne, writer/devisor Gita Bezard and performer/devisors Alissa Claessens and Fran Middleton who met at university in 2005 and produced their first professional production three years later.

"We initially came up with the idea for One Night Echo in 2009. We wanted to make a work about the narcissistic tendencies of our generation and found some great thematic parallels with certain mythological stories. So we used these stories as a springboard to create a new work. I'm really excited about how the work is coming together.

"We have assembled a team of incredible theatre artists, musicians and dancers to create a surreal and entertaining new show. This will be The Duck House's ninth professional production and we are really looking forward to celebrating our fifth birthday with the premiere of One Night Echo," said
director/producer Osborne.

With music by Elliott Hughes (WA Youth Jazz Orchestra, Horizon Art Orchestra) this show is a modern delight and the quintessential production to celebrate the company's fifth birthday.
