Some killers go to confession, Wanda goes to karaoke
Karaoke is a ten billion dollar a year industry. The name is Japanese for 'empty orchestra' and there isn't a city anywhere that doesn't have a karaoke bar somewhere filled with office workers belting out Anyone Who Had a Heart usually with more enjoyment than skill.
It all dates back to the 1960's and an American TV programme hosted by Mitch Millar- Sing Along with Mitch, featuring a scroll along the bottom of the screen so that the viewer could sing along at home.
Karaoke is the background of Fringe World's show on at Ace's Cabaret Downstairs at The Maj One Hit Wanda! Karaoke Killer. Starring Cinzia Lee (star of Grease, Jersey Boys and Home in WA on TV) as Wanda a femme fatale, whose attentions leave more than one fatality.
In between tales of murder, mayhem and the underground, underworld and underwear Wanda belts out a selection of one-hit wonders of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
One Hit Wanda runs Downstairs at The Maj from Valentine's Day the 14th to February the 18th at 9:00pm. Tickets cost from $36 and may be booked on the Fringe World website here.
The show is suitable for audiences fifteen years and over. It contains mild coarse language and adult themes.
