They're not modest. They're young, good looking and just a bunch of lads who happen to have competed on the X-Factor in the UK and shot to dizzy heights of fame. Their following has been rapid and unprecedented.
They are the world's biggest boy band – and not many people can say that in their lifetime. They are, of course, One Direction.
For one weekend only on October 11/12, the new 1D movie, Where We Are - The Concert Tour will be shown in 3000 cinemas with more than 10,000 screenings.
One Direction's Where We Are - The Concert Tour was recorded in Italy this year. And if that's not enough of the boys, the movie also features a 15-minute interview with the band and behind-the-scenes footage. This is for all those fans who haven't had a chance to see the live tour; it's all part of a sneaky plan to tempt you to want to go to their live show coming to Australia in February 2015.
For parents, this is a prelude to the real deal. The thing is if you can't stand the movie you can sit outside and read your book while eating popcorn – everyone's a winner. This gives you time to think up a reasonable excuse about why the live show is out of the question.
The band's first film, This Is Us, a 3D release was disappointing as it was only the fourth highest grossing concert movie. That means it earned a measly US$68 million ($72 million). I guess they are hoping to make up for such losses on this new movie. Tickets for Where We Are
go on sale from August 15.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't dare to cast doubt on such brilliance. I even know all their names: Niall, Zayn, Liam, Louis, and Harry… and I know the odd fact about them. I'm not keen on them flaunting their dope on You tube but I secretly wish I were about 30 years younger because Harry is hot!
Their name may lead to confusion but One direction ain't going backwards – they continue to shoot upwards slaying the world and most of my daughter's friends.
Here are a few more facts about 1D to impress the kids (and to prove I am trendy as… and believe it or not have a few things in common with 1D):
Harry's musical heroes are The Beatles and Coldplay.
Liam's favourite colour is purple.
Niall's favourite movie of all time is Grease.
Niall had braces on his teeth.
It seems as though I don't have much in common with Zayn and Louis. Don't hold that against me!
The band's next tour, On The Road Again, comes to Australia in February. It is playing in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
I am not criticizing them; god forbid, but I do have an adult's only question. Has anyone else thought that their words don't make sense?
'You don't know you're beautiful… that's what makes you beautiful'… hah? I don't know if I'm beautiful, actually I know I'm not, so does that make me absolutely stunning?
But what do I know?
What Makes You Beautiful,
Gotta Be You and
One Thing have had over 70 million views on YouTube. One Direction has over (no exaggeration) 2 bazillion fans on Facebook and nearly as many Twitter followers. No doubt this movie is going to be a winner. Get your tickets now or be disappointed (or not).
