Once the Musical introduces a style of theatre far different from your average Broadway smash. Forget booming vocals, fancy lighting and show stopping effects, Once the Musical brings a raw, down-to-earth performance to the stage, mixing Irish banter with foot stomping folk music in a heartwarming love story between an unlikely pair.

The centre stage is fitted with a minimalist and low-key set, beginning with a lively musical Irish bar scene encouraging audience members to buy a beverage from the on-stage bar before the performance starts.

Rather than a traditional orchestra pit, all Once the Musical cast members provide the instrumentals either sitting on seats lined at the edge of the set, or performing on stage.

The Australian premier season of Once The Musical sees Tom Parsons playing Dashing Dubliner 'Guy', with Madeline Jones acting the role of sweet-but-serious Czech 'Girl'. Set in a modern modern day Dublin, Once the Musical tells the tale of a Guy who lost his passion for music after a heartbreak, but soon meets a Girl who inspires him to follow his musical dream.

In a compelling take on a typical on-stage 'Guy meets Girl' scenario, the small cast that make up Once the Musical pack a mighty performance, bounding on stage with song, dance, musical magic and light-hearted comedy.

Key highlights would be the performance of the Oscar award-winning song 'Falling Slowly', a touching scene with Guy and Girl looking down on the twinkling lights of Dublin and a beautiful acapella version of 'Gold'.

Once the Musical premiered in New York in 2011, winning 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2012. Now hitting Melbourne for its Australian premier season, Once the Musical will play at the Princess Theatre until the end of December 2014.

In a passionate performance combining music from the soul, an emotional love affair and a hearty splash of humour, Once the Musical proves to be an unexpected gem of a show without the necessity of an extravagant theatre set. A must see for music-fanatics. #loveonce
