On Golden Pond – Pavilion Theatre

The Castle Hill Players have done it again with their excellent production of On Golden Pond at the Pavilion Theatre . The story is familiar to those that have seen the movie starring Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda, although the tale of family dynamics is something to which we can all relate.



We are invited to spend some time with Norman and his long-suffering wife Ethel in the Thayer family summer holiday house on Golden Pond. Themes of love, families, life, ageing and death are explored in this gentle comedy/drama.



The set is well-designed and evocative of a run down but comfortable home. Dave Kirkham is made for the role of Norman Thayer Jnr and plays it with the right mixture of gruff humour and sarcasm. All of the actors performed their roles well and the young Billy Ray is played with exuberance by Brayden Sim.



There is a 20-minute interval during which free tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. On Friday and Saturday nights wine and beer are available at very reasonable prices.

The next production at The Pavilion Theatre from September 23 is Boeing Boeing, a romantic farce.
