The is currently being held at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre at Darling Harbour from 26 to 29 September and is hosted by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture together with the Consulate-General of the Sultanate of Oman.
The exhibit is easy to spot from the giant sandcastle on exhibit just outside the exhibition hall near the 'Oman Cultural Days' sign. The sandcastle is a depiction of Oman's famous forts and castles and is probably the most stunning exhibit in itself.
Once I entered the Bayside Grand Hall, I traversed through a typical Omani marketplace, with 'stallholders' showcasing linen, traditional clothing, jewellery and even art. Inside the main hall, I was lucky to witness Omani men singing folk songs, while elders accompanied them on the drums.
Miniature stalls surround the mainstage and offer guests other cultural experiences such as henna tattooing, scriptwriting, sand sculpturing and even a chance to wear Omani clothes. The henna tattoo – a temporary herbal paste that is applied in a elegant pattern - is a classic experience for any visitor.
Visitors keen to watch the fashion show need to be present in the main hall at 11am, 2pm or 2.30pm.
