A former Army Ranger finds himself in The White House trying to save the U.S President who has been taken hostage by Elite Korean Terrorists.
Looking at the trailer all that is seen is explosions, terrorists and The White House in the background. So who the hell is Olympus? And how have they fallen? 'Olympus' is actually the code name for The White House and 'fallen' means it's been taken over. Glad that's covered. It would have been much simpler to name it 'The White House Has Blown Up'. What happened to obvious movie titles like: Snakes on a Plane, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and Ghostbusters? Sure they're not creative but I'd rather that then a title which still has me scratching my head even after the credits stop rolling.
The movie stars Gerard Butler as Mike Banning, the U.S Army Ranger and Aaron Eckhart who plays President Asher. Gerard's vigilante character is played with the right amount of arrogance, roughness and efficiency. Eckhart gives a strong performance. Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett are a welcome appearance but neither don't own their character enough to make it memorable. The standout had to be Rick Yune, who plays the dangerous, skilful and merciless terrorist mastermind Kang Yeonsak.
The story was average, the climax was rushed but the action and directing masks what's lacking. The movie forgets about the vest and takes a lot of nasty head shots. It's filled with explosions and very explicit violent scenes (which there is many of). I wouldn't make a 'out of the way' trip to the cinema for this one. 2.5/5
