Oils and olive oil
Just some 60 kms from Brisbane, just a short distance from the Warrego Highway on the Lowood Minden Road, at Minden is Coolana Olives.
Ian and Dot Roy started their operation way back in 1998, when they planted 1000 olive trees on their property. In the years since, they have developed their skills and knowledge of olives and they are now both accredited judges of olives around Australia.
Learning about olives.
Visitors are welcome at Coolana Olives, however, when you plan to visit, contact them first to ensure that someone is there to open the shop and share the valuable information they have about olives and the use of olives and the oil in your culinary adventures.

For groups, they have an outdoor "classroom" where you will hear stories about the growing of olives, and information about the different varieties of olive oil, and uses. The best bit is you get to taste some of their products including different oils, dips and more. Their flyer says "Enjoy a Taste Experience. Olive Oils, Infused Olive Oils, wide range of delicious Olives, Balsamic Vinegars, Wine and Cheese".
"Olive oil is rich in mono-unsaturated fats and contains no cholesterol. Many nutritionists and medical groups including the National Heart Foundation are now recommending olive oil as the healthy substitute for other fats in the diet. Olive oil is the only oil which is actually a fruit juice … in its purest form, the oil is simply 'squeezed' from the fruit, filtered and bottled … with no contamination by any chemical processes." from Olive Australia website.
Coolana Olives have had great success at National level competition, winning a number of awards around Australia.
One product that is available through Coolana is olive oil in a cask – ensuring that is no air contamination of the oil, giving you the opportunity to decant into your own bottle/jar for day to day use in your cooking, while still keeping the bulk of the oil safe and fresh in the cask.

Of course, buying your olive oil from Coolana is buying Australian products and supporting local farmers. Also, they have a range of Australian wines and other products.
