Brunch at Olinda Tea House
Olinda is renowned for its beautiful public and private gardens that blossoms all year round. But did you know that Olinda is also home to one of the best places for brunch? Nestled in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges 40 kilometres from Melbourne is Olinda Tea House. A picturesque and tranquil tea house like no other, it is surrounded by lush gardens, blossoming flowers and towering trees-blending the boundaries between mankind and nature.

The Olinda Story
The idea of Olinda Teahouse was born in July 2007 and opened its doors on June 2011. Described as 'a place born from love', after losing their beloved daughter/sister to Leukaemia the Lin family sought for a place to mend their souls. They found that the tranquil serenity of trees and the peaceful calmness of the Olinda surrounds brought much needed healing.

View of Inside the Tea House

Olinda Tea House opened its doors after more than four years of conception, designing, permit approvals and construction. With a floating butterfly roof design, it not only complements the building's natural forest setting but also allows for maximum natural light to enter the building, the collection of rainwater and the installation of solar panels that generate electricity. Harmonising with nature, the Olinda Tea House is a must visit destination when you're exploring the Dandenong ranges.

Menu
The menu at Olinda Tea House is extensive with a breakfast menu starting from 9:00am to 11:30am and a lunch menu from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. With light options, mains and desserts to choose from -whether you are after something light or a grand meal you will definitely be looked after. Some options from the menu include pancakes, baked eggs, soup of the day, roasted beetroot salad, pan-fried fillet of salmon, confit duck leg with braised puy lentils just to name a few. Just hearing these options make you hungry doesn't it?

On this occasion we came in for a light lunch and dessert and ordered the home-made mini beef burgers with shoestring fries and salad. Despite being mini, the burgers were juicy and crisp. Chips were perfectly fried and the salad was light and refreshing.

The coffee was perfectly made and there is a good selection of teas to choose from. It was especially enjoyable in such a tranquil and modern setting with plentiful natural light and a lovely view of the back of the property. The home-made scones came out warm, fluffy and soft in the inside and were served with fresh raspberry jam and double cream –just the way I like it. The scones on its own is priced at $12.50 or you can opt for the devonshire tea combo like I did which includes any regular coffee or tea from the menu for $15.

To satisfy my sweet tooth I ordered the Lemon Meringue Tart, it was exactly what a perfect lemon meringue tart was supposed to taste like –crunchy shell on the outside with a sweet, fluffy meringue and a soft tangy centre. The scoop of cream helped balance and neutralise the flavours so that they blended harmoniously on the palette.

If you're not a Lemon Meringue person, there are plenty more options to choose from the cake cabinet including florentines, macarons, pear and almond tart, pear and raspberry crumble, chocolate and orange tart, white chocolate and berry cheesecake and that's only touching the surface! Not to mention their gluten free options – lemon polenta, flourless apple, almond and raisin and flourless orange cake.
