Are you looking for a special, original and individual piece that stands out from the crowd, to style your house? may have just the thing for you. With a mix of old and new, Old Favourites restore, re-purpose and rejuvenate homewares keeping the treasures of old alive.

I must admit to enjoying foraging through collectibles in the hope of discovering that unique and special curio – something that could be a talking piece but also just be unusual and feel special to me. So I took up the challenge and set off to Old Favourites to see what I could find.

About Old Favourites
Housed in a 100 year old shed in the seaside village of Sandgate, , just North of Brisbane has homewares stock which is aged, simple and elegant.

Old Favouites was easy to spot being located at the end of Rainbow Street – a main thoroughfare in Sandgate. The shed is painted white with a large sign and a small white stool resting curiously on the roof. A string of fairy lights leads the way to the entrance. I notice a white wicker chair and bathtub filled with the plants sitting outside which gives a clue to the heritage looks that lie inside.

Former teacher and owner Rachel McGregor has assembled a mix of much loved pieces that are hand-picked and hand-painted. Each has a sense of history and nostalgia about them. Yes the items in the shed are slightly well-worn, or at least have an aged appearance. Without the gloss of the new they have a story to share and that's what makes them unique.

So, what did I find?
Wandering through the shed, I found a mix of household decorator items including:

vintage door knobs including some with animal designs($6.50)
glass door knobs ($8.50),
clocks
Ivy and Wood candles
classic typewriters and irons
lazy hammocks, chairs and warm throws
wicker baskets
coasters and crockery

Many items were made from wood, glass, tin, and cane, giving extra texture to the pieces.

The shed is not massive, but I found myself constantly stopping and thinking "Wow,! Look at that." While there was a lot to look through, my favourites were the door knobs and in particular the black ones in the shape of a Western Highland terrier dog. Maybe it was because they did look remarkably like my four legged companion who came along for the ride or just because they were unusual and cute.

What else should you know?
The Shed is open from Friday to Sunday from 9am – 2pm. You can also follow Old Favourites on Facebook outside these hours. Street parking is available. So if you are looking for unique gift or that talking point item for your house, pop into Old Favourites and find a new favourite piece for today and tomorrow.
