Fri 10 Oct 2014 - Sun 19 Oct 2014

Dust off the lederhosen and your dirndls's and book your dates for Oktoberfest Brisbane 2014 for a taste of Bavaria. The RNA Showground's becomes Little Germany, hosting an array of Oompah Bands, cow bell ringers and yodellers.

Held over the weekends of 10-12 and 17-19 October and billed as the largest German Festival in Australia and one of the best outside Germany, it's your opportunity to celebrate all things German with plenty of culture, traditions and of course food and beer on offer, from schweinshaxen 'pork knuckle' to sauerkraut or from pretzels to the delicious lebkuchen (gingerbread).

And it's not just for adults as there is plenty on offer for the 'kinder' (children) with carnival rides, the animal farm and traditional Kasperltheater-style puppet show providing good family entertainment.

Entertainment

Sup your beer from your brimming Steiner in the 'Munich Biergarten' and listen to the popular German folk band 'Münchner Buam' flown specially from the original Oktoberfest. From rock to traditional folk the band will recreate the atmosphere from their Bavarian homeland.

Listen to yodelling masters Heidi and Adeline and be transported to the peaks of Germany while taking part in the crowd sing-a-long.

Cow bell ringing, leg slapping and traditional German dancing are all part of the 'Hans' on entertainment you can be part of.

How about doing the 'Schunkel' linking arms with your neighbour and swaying in time to the music?

Sunday Family Fun Days

There is plenty on offer for the 'kinder' (children) with carnival rides, the animal farm and Traditional Kasperltheater-style puppet show providing good family entertainment. Budding Beckhams or Beckenbauers can try the 'go-for-goal' tests in the 'Torwandschiessen'. Sundays is set up as a Family Fun Day with also face painting and bell ringing as well.

Beer

Whether you prefer your beers as a Weiss bier (wheat) or Dunkel bier (dark) you won't be disappointed with a range of traditionally crafted beers will be on hand to enjoy out of steins. And of course Germany is famous too for its wine and schnapps with kaffee und kuchen on offer if its afternoon tea you prefer.

Food

Where would good German beer be without good traditional fare? Choose from sauerkraut to accompany the traditional German sausages, pork knuckle and schnitzel, or if you prefer, the pretzels, sourdough bread or strudel. There's a choice for all palates and budgets.

Meat lovers, vegetarians and those with gluten-intolerances can choose from classic favourites as well as other deliciously authentic German specialties, such as baked potato dishes, salads, dips, strawberries in chocolate, or a freshly-baked pretzel.

Kaffee und Kuchen

How about Afternoon Tea German style? Enjoy Germany's equivalent with freshly brewed coffee or tea and delicious German cakes and slices. Make your choice from Black Forest gateau, a Sacher Torte or traditional cheesecake.

The Venue

The RNA showground's, famous as the Brisbane Ekka site, is once again transformed into a mini Bavaria with its authentic Biergarten and it wooden floors, wine barrel tables and decorations to transport you over to Bavaria… without leaving Brisbane!
