Community has a different feel and texture in Celebration, Florida southwest of Orlando, just minutes from Walt Disney World and developed by that company in 1996 with its Sunday Farmers Market and monthly events with October, of course, being its take on Oktoberfest .



Free admission and free parking add to its popularity with two nights of live music right on the water in the town center. Friday, October 21, it's Country plus with the versatile Bryan Malpass and his band, Saturday October 22, it becomes Roktoberfest, with Fairview opening at 6:25 pm for an evening with Cat Ridgeway & The Tourists .



Emcee Mark Daniel kicks off the night and keeps the crowd informed of all there is to do in the area: each of the local restaurants has a food tent set up with both food and beverages for sale, and the local merchants remain open on Market Street.



At the top of Market Street find a hayride to jump on, the new train express, or a Cinderella-worthy carriage for a spin around town on two beautiful steeds.


The bandstand, located at the base of Market Street on Front Street creates the "backstage" area as the lake itself. With rocking chairs with umbrellas or the stretch of stairs as easy seating (and a little less volume), fans of all ages can relax as the sun sets or the lights twinkle across the lake. Before the sun sets, it's common to see young ones dashing through the fountain on Front Street.



Each hour, starting at 7 pm, the leaves fall. Blown from boxes on both sides and all along Market Street, it's the Florida interpretation of fall foliage with an added bonus. Children that take the leaves to any of the merchants of Market Street receive a small gift. One enterprising little girl carried a little paper bag with woven handles, running beneath the release point to be sure to collect enough leaves for her purposes.



It's cool in this part of Florida when the sun sets, in the 50sF (avg 13C) but still in the mid-70s (24.4C) during the day with plenty of residents enjoying the poolside seats though few are swimming in the now cold pools.



But the warmth of the community, gathering at the bandstand, strolling along Front Street or Market Street, or any of the many walking paths in Celebration, participating in the Farmers Market or any of the holiday parades, overcomes the coolness of the weather and makes a great place for residents and visitors alike.



When you're in central Florida, especially by Walt Disney World, Celebration is the unmissable town for your visit.
