Oktoberfest is the worlds largest beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany. This sixteen day festival attracts millions of people from around the globe to celebrate the German way of life. Here in Canberra, there are a number of events to enjoy the German culture and of course...the beer!

Oktoberfest at the EPIC is organised by the Harmonie German Club and held at the Exhibition Park in Canberra. Each year, thousands turn up for the party of the year with live music, German food and the wide variety of beers - which seem to taste better in their huge beer steins. Beginning on Friday October 30th, it will run for three huge days.

Food stalls at the event include delicious roast pork rolls, schnitzel and German sausages. Afterwards, try some traditional German gingerbread hearts or Dutch pancakes.
To match your food, grab a Lowenbrau draught beer, German bottled beers, Jägermeister or a wine. Half the fun of Oktoberfest is trying new beers and there will be ample opportunity to so over this three day event.

The live entertainment will be another highlight of this day to get you into the Oktoberfest mood. The popular St. Raphaels German Folk Dancing Group will be back again this year, coming from Sydney for this event.

The cost is $20 for the Friday, $25 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday. See here for event details. ACTION busses will be running transport to and from the event. See here for details closer to the dates.

Harmonie German Club in Narrabundah (who organises the above event) is also another great venue for Oktoberfest for a quieter celebration with friends.

You don't need to be German or a member to check out the club. According to their website: "The club is open to everyone and you are encouraged to join us and enjoy the friendly German atmosphere". Their bistro, restaurant and live music makes this a popular Club for Canberra locals and visitors.
See here for more details.

The Southern Cross Club will be holding a Beer Dinner to celebrate Oktoberfest in the Marquee at the Yacht Club in Yarralumla. Held on Friday October 23rd, there will be a range of local and international boutique beers with an expertly matched six course menu. This dinner by the lake will be hosted by Josh Stainer, Lion Nathan's James Squire brewer, making this an interesting and entertaining evening for beer connoisseur's. See here for more details.

Also to celebrate Oktoberfest, they are also offering $6 German beers at all clubs for the month of October. See here for details.

King O'Malley's Pub in the CBD is celebrating Oktoberfest all month, so get down to this popular pub for some Oktoberfest beers and pretzels! Enjoy Franziskaner,Lowenbrau, Hofbrau & Erdinger beers with friends and new friends to be made.

See their Facebook for more info.

Local pubs, clubs and bars are sure to have celebrations over the month, so check local advertisements for details. The Belgium Beer Café in Kingston and the Zierholz Brewery in Fyshwick could be two options to explore.

Enjoy the German culture and hospitality of Oktoberfest around the Capital.
