It's finally that time of the year again where everyone suddenly becomes German and celebrates man's greatest invention: Beer. For two Fridays only, grab a stein or two and join the festive German spirit of Oktoberfest held at the European Bier Café, located on 120 Exhibition Street in the CBD.
Oktoberfest original celebrates the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. Over the years, the festival came to incorporate elements of Bavarian culture, and thus the festival shifted from a royal wedding celebration into a celebration of Bavarian culture. Today, Oktoberfest has gone on to become Germany's most famous event, and also the world's largest fair with an average of 5 million people and more attending each year.
Although the true Oktoberfest is held in Munich, the festival has spread around the world with countries such as America, Argentina, Columbia, Vietnam and Hong Kong joining the German festive fun. In Melbourne, Oktoberfest will be held on the two following Fridays; Friday 7th October and Friday 14th October, at the European Bier Café.
As a part of the celebration, delicious German cuisine will be served, along with specials on Bavarian beers and snacks. An Oompah band will also be featured playing the deep rhythmic sounds of traditional German tunes.
Tickets are priced at $30 for European Bier Café members and $40 for non-members. Prices not include only include entry to the Beer Hall, but also a free glass bier stein filled with thirst quenching German beer and a nourishing pretzel to accompany your drink.
