I'm largely a private person, but, there are a couple of things about myself that I can't help but share with the general public. My appalling parallel parking (although shared rather involuntarily), and disdain for weather conditions over 25 degrees are two such examples.

But the one I'd like to share with you all today, is my addiction to Japanese food. It's like the crack of all cuisines for me and I've spent years loitering around Perth trying to find, "The One."

Fellow Japanese food lovers from Perth and beyond, I present to you, Ohnamiya. What we have here, is a medium sized eatery, authentic from the decour to the lovely staff, fairly priced and with menu range so wide, that it is impossible to stay faithful to one dish. (Which is why multiple visits are encouraged!)

Having said all that, I present to you, my Foodie's Five:

1. Karaage Chicken

Karagee Chicken in the Sushi Box (C)

75% of my visits to Ohnamiya consist of devouring their Karaage Chicken. This is your sure fire guarantee of getting mouth watering, tender and addictive fried chicken (think gourmet KFC). I usually order it in the Sushi Bento Box, or if I'm feeling particularly on the brink of starvation, I will splurge and order the Karaage in the Deluxe Bento Box. Which includes, agedashi tofu (more about that later), seasame chicken, salad and sushi. (Rice can be included for an extra 50c, worth it!)

2. Chicken Katsu Curry

Chicken Katsu Curry

This one's a crowd pleaser. I can't walk into Ohnamiya on any night without seeing 5 other customers either about to tuck into this, or hastily leaving with this meal in it's takeaway form. A mild curry with beef and hearty vegetables, served in a gravy pot with crispy, tender Chicken Katsu, on a bed of steamed rice. This dish is perfect for me, especially now that Winter is just around the corner. Special mention goes to the Chicken Katsu, as it's really what makes ordering this curry completely worth it.

3. Agedashi Tofu

Agedashi Tofu (Large serve with side salad)

I'd like to think of good agedashi tofu as my birth right; since I could chew tofu has been one of my favourite foods in the world, and the Japanese just get me on this one! I order this every time, either as a side, or when it's included in the Deluxe Box (above) It's silky tofu, perfectly fried and sitting pretty in a thick, moreish sauce. There is always extra sauce left over from the tofu, which also goes amazingly well with the side salad that comes with it!

4. Prawn Katsu Sushi Roll

I'm a pickled ginger addict, and I enjoy that it's included with every sushi order!

Ohnamiya has a great range of sushi and sashimi, which is cut and made fresh to order. My favourite is the Prawn Katsu Roll, a crispy, freshly fried prawn wrapped with lettuce and mayonnaise. It's one of those simplistic flavour combinations that works, and who can go past juicy, perfectly cooked prawns?

My other favourite is the Tuna and Avocado Roll, pictured above in the Karaage Sushi Box!)

5. Teriyaki Salmon Donburi

Teriyaki Salmon Don

Ohnamiya also has a large range of Donburis, Japanese for "bowl", which included chilli chicken (amazing), teriyaki fish or teri-mayo chicken (notable mention) served over rice. But my favourite is the Teriyaki Salmon, cooked in teriyaki sauce, with vegetables and chilli. If you love salmon, and you're looking for a sizeable, delicious dinner; teriyaki salmon don is your best bet.

Ohnamiya as a restaurant, runs like a tight ship; with quick, friendly and consistent service, whether it be for dine in or takeaway. It's the comfort food you think of on a rainy drive home, the place you want to congregate and feast at with your friends, and it's the next best thing, when Japan is just a little too far away. And although I feel like I've just shared the intimate details of my first crush with the rest of Perth and beyond. I have no regrets, as I hope you all can experience your very own love affair with Ohnamiya soon.

Oh, and for those who love to finish on a sweet note, I've got something for you too: Green Tea Pannacotta

The type of Pannacotta to please any cravat wearer, it's silky smooth and wobbles like a perfect belly dancer. Full matcha flavour resonates through both the pudding and the sauce and is the perfect way to finish off any meal at Ohnamiya.
