Oh Là Là - Organic French Food

If there is something that we have learnt from corona times, it is that the world right by us is probably the most important one. Our real-world, as opposed to our virtual one, has shrunk and our neighbourhood is what we fall back on. Before corona times BC, we ran around and did so much, but went into our homes as fast as we could park our cars. Now we linger when we take the bins out, wondering who we might chat to, at an acceptable distance of course, and smile at the people we cross on our daily walk. We listen to children's voices from the house next door dealing with their changed lives and have a gardening word across the fence.
Two events involving hoods happened in a single day, which I am sharing with you all. A letter popped into our letterbox asking me to join au.nextdoor.com. This is the website
Next Door .
As you can insert your postcode, this site is available widely and it is a wonderful local resource for seeing what is happening in your hood, so go along to yours and download the app and see what nuggets you can pick up.
My second nugget is an edible one and it too came in my post box.
It was offering me food which is organic and vegan and I read through the menu with great interest and I have placed my order for dinner tonight.
I pride myself on knowing most of the people in my street but Leo and Julie have only recently moved in, so I was thrilled to meet this delightful and enterprising young couple.
Julie is from Nice and Leo is from Paris. They met in Melbourne in December 2018 and lived there for 4 months. Then, they started travelling around looking for farm work to secure their second year of a Working Holiday Visa. They travelled extensively but ended up in Harrisville, in a hydroponic herbs farm. And that is where they began to think about opening a food stall. They started with a raw & vegan French pastries project, named French PastRAW trading near Ipswich first, and then going to several Brisbane markets, discovering and enjoying Brisbane's atmosphere and people.
At the end of their first visa, they went back to France to see their families and started to plan for the second year.
Returning to Brisbane, where they felt good and had established markets and customers, was an easy choice and they began to offer a broader range of French food, with savoury and cooked dishes. They chose to go organic because they knew how many unhealthy things you can get in your plate from conventional farming. Oh Là Là was born.
From the very beginning, they have offered vegan and gluten-free food, making the food as inclusive as possible, which can be offered to everyone, on any diet. They are concerned by the environment, animal welfare and health, so it made a lot of sense to offer vegan food. Their events have been curtailed as have the pop-ups but this enterprising young couple are using their skills and sharing their food with their neighbourhood in Red Hill and surrounds.
