Newtown; you continue to delight, surprise and amaze!
Head into one of Newtown's flash laneways, and you will find yourself at O'Connell Street Merchants. They're located right above cool Brewtown Newtown. Trust me, when you come into this cool, quirky and trendy space - you won't want to leave.
Polished floorboards and an old sandstone wall blend in beautifully, as well as helpful staff. It is easy to get into a conversation with Lucia, one of the owners of O'Connell Street Merchants. A Dear Pluto vibe is definitely enjoyed here. They just need a cool black cat like Millie.
If you love Brewtown Newtown, O'Connell Street Merchants have just opened a little cafe upstairs called The Affogato Shack, and as you guessed, they sell affogatos. I just wanted a scoop of pistachio ice cream, and for $5 I received awesome value. I caught Gemma (also an artist) painting the gelato storage area, and her service was also pleasant.
It was impressive to notice that Gascoigne and King candles are sold here. They're elegant, and they don't come cheap. Needless to say, these candles are beautiful for the home. My favourite is the Paddington, which has an aroma of fresh trees. O'Connell Street Merchants exudes charm, creativity, quirkiness and that homely feel. With this establishment teaming up with Brewtown Newtown and The Affogato Shack, you're in Newtown heaven! Territory wise from the city, you've only scratched the surface of which this gothic, bohemian area of Sydney has to offer.
