The bar scene in Brisbane is constantly changing. In the last few years, there has been an increase in venues moving away from the old formula of booze, food and music and offering activities and games . Oche is one of the latest, updating darts into the 21st century with booths and electronic scoring.

Oche, pronounced oki, is the name of the line from which you throw darts. Oche bars form part of an international chain, that includes Olso, Amsterdam and Brisbane, a very eclectic selection of cities to be sure. Their goal is to take the traditional pub game of darts and bring a new vibe and style to the game. Their goal is to be part of a fun night out that includes drinks, food and darts.

Located on Constance Street in Fortitude Valley, it is in then really the trendy area of the valley where the cool and innovative bars and restaurants tend to be. They have beautifully converted the old building at that address into a bar that pays hommage to its heritage while also having a modern feel.

The layout of the bar is a balance between spaces for groups playing darts and the general area of the bar. There a number of booths for playing darts. When you play, you book into a booth. Ideally, bring lots of friends, and each booth can hold up to 12 players. There is also plenty of space just outside the booths to watch, as well as separate seating areas and a cocktail balcony.

Each darts game is run electronically and costs as little as $10 person for an 85 minute game, depending the time and the number of people. The board and darts are the same as the classic game, but the system guides you through it, scoring for you. There are different games including Killer, Shanghai, 201, Highstriker and Hoggern.

The menu focuses on share plates. Come with friends, order beers and share food and play a game. You can also order a selection platter that includes a range of different items.

The range of food is pretty impressive, including healthier options such as grilled broccoli and vine ripen tomatoes. Personally I lean towards the tacos, which come in a variety of options and are a perfect size for snacking on.

Overall, Oche is a great new option in the valley. On weekends it has a great vibe designed to energise the younger crowd and introduce them to the classic pub game of darts through innovative technology. On other days the music will be quieter and mood more relaxed. It comes down to whether Brisbanites, young and old, will embrace or revisit this classic pub game.
